Freya

It was a very exciting day for Ocean Coats when Freya was lifted out on the 24th July 2020. Robert and his team were eager to go and carry out the work on her:

  • Her hull
  • Coach roof
  • Cockpit
  • Mast, boom, spreads and radar domes
  • Below the waterline
  • Inner and outer forestays
  • T/T Freya

And so much more....

You name it we painted it!

Mast, Boom, Spreaders and Radar Domes

Ocean Coats Marine Services started the project by working on the mast, boom, spreaders, and radar domes. Each of these components was sanded and cleaned before applying Awlgrip's 545 Epoxy Primer, then sprayed with Awlcraft 2000. Ocean Coats carried out this work in different locations. The mast being 36m in length, was scaffolded and Shrink Wrapped . The spreaders and radar domes were worked upon in Ocean Coats' spray booth. Finally, the 12m boom was transported by Kingswell Haulage to Clarence Boatyard for the work to be carried out in Ocean Coats' shed.

During this time, the Ocean Coats team and the scaffolders created a shrink-wrapped tent for Freya. Once the scaffolding was complete,  Ocean Coats and the scaffolding team worked several days to shrink-wrap the entire scaffolding structure. Ocean Coats then created the ultimate and approved atmosphere for works to be carried out on the vessel itself.

What was next for Freya....

Next, on the 10th of September 2020, the Ocean Coats Team worked below Freya's waterline. Scraping and wet sanding removing all the old anti-foul on the vessel. Sanding the anti-foul was a long graft and took several days; Ocean Coats also carried out repairs on the keel bulb.

Robert Walker (business owner of Ocean Coats) quoted 'The days my team were below the waterline was backbreaking work. With the hot weather, it wasn't the nicest of jobs. But my team performed to their highest ability and professionalism. I am extremely proud of them!'

Coachroof and Cockpits

Ocean Coats gave the Coach roof and Cockpits a new lease of life with AWLCRAFT 2000. There was a lot of intricate areas to sand, prime and topcoat, but the attention to detail that all Ocean Coats members perform to is a testament to the high standards we aim to achieve with all works carried out.

We had a Hull of a time!

Repainting the hull was very exciting for Ocean Coats with the custom-made pastel grey in AWLCRAFT 2000, and the 250ft distance was undoubtedly an excellent exercise for the team!

The process always begins with a longboarding session, five 8 hour days with five guys, safe to say a tiring process, but it still brings a fantastic outcome. High build, 545 epoxy primer, and AWLCRAFT 2000 is the best system for this distinguished superyacht.

Rob and Mike applied the gloss in three sections which allowed the topsides to have a fantastic gun finish, with a distinction of image or better known as DOI any man will be happy to use as a shaving mirror.

The Topsides' overall outcome is testament to the quality of work Ocean Coats Marine Services produces daily with all of their customers.
